Outputs

MAIN OUTPUTS OF THE BALTIC BIRD PROJECT

Guidelines and manuals

  • PSO/ RDF application guidelines: project partners and associated partners make jointly available experiences in PSO/ RDF to elaborate application guidelines; regions, airports and airlines use it to encourage airlines to start a new flight connection on routes for which PAX market analysis actually show insufficiently PAX numbers.

Download Final Report "Task A: Moderation and Elaboration of PSO/RDF Guidelines - 1.0 & 1.1" (Output WP 5.3)

Download Final Report "Task A: Moderation and Elaboration of PSO/RDF Guidelines - 1.2 & 2.0" (Output WP 5.3)

Preparatory documents for specific investments

  • Feasibility study for public transport and intermodal airport connectivity solutions in the peripheral BSR of South Ostrobothnia, North Karelia, Midtjylland: regions and airports gain knowledge about feasibility of transnationally developed strategy; uses study for preparing pre-investment study.

Download Final Report "Interconnectivity of Airports and Public Transport Services – Strategic Options for Improvement & Feasibility Studies on Innovative Public Transport" (Output WP 4)

  • Feasibility study for agglomerated region (Bydgoszcz) on innovative individual PTS: Bydgoszcz gains knowledge about feasibility of transnationally developed strategies City Air Terminals; uses study for preparing pre-investment study (e.g. optimal location, design of investment).

Download Final Report "Interconnectivity of Airports and Public Transport Services – Strategic Options for Improvement & Feasibility Studies on Innovative Public Transport" (Output WP 4)

  • Pre-investment study “City Air Terminals”: joint transnational work on specifications for PAX information equipment and public transport infrastructure; Bydgoszcz uses study for investing in those terminals; partners use knowledge about the technical capabilities and efficiency for own future investments.

Download "Torun City Air Terminal Location Study" (Output WP 4)

  • Pre-investment studies for public transport and intermodal airport connectivity solutions in the peripheral BSR of South Ostrobothnia, Midtjysk, North Karelia using a study for investing in this system; partners use knowledge about the technical capabilities and efficiency for own future investments.

Download "Pre-Investment Study for Joensuu Airport" (Output WP 4)

Thematic expertise (including economic analysis)

  • PAX market potential analysis as Implementation folder (14 different folders) including report on ecological sustainability (calculation of CO2-emissions/ air pollution) of new flight connections : jointly conceptually designed; shows market demand for air transport in BALTIC BIRD regions; regions and airports get precise travel demands to and from BSR; include calculations on accessibility improvements of peripheral BSR.

Download Final Report "Aggregated Results of the Passenger Potential Analyses" (Output WP 3)

  • Public transport service SWOT-analysis studies: involved regions and airports get insight about the current state of the situation and future opportunities of intermodal linkage design between airport, air transport and public transports services (PTS); to be used as a basis for developing innovative feasible PTS strategies and investments.

Download SWOT-Analysis "Interconnectivity of Airports and Public Transport Services" (Output WP 4)

  • Joint marketing strategies: joint elaboration of negotiation and marketing strategies for airports in peripheral BSR; together with PAX potential analysis, regions and airports use this knowledge to implement advertising and negotiation measures to attract airlines setting up new routes.

Download Final Report "Elaboration of an Airport Marketing Toolbox" (Output WP 5.1)

» Website "The Airport Marketing Toolbox"

  • Study on regional economic justification of PSO/ RDF: compares additional regional economic effects of new flight connections with required amount to impose PSO/ RDF on this route; regions and EU-policy will use study to quantify regional effects of new flight routes  and to efficiently deploy PSO/ RDF.

Download Final Report "Task B: Study on Regional Economic Justification of PSO/ RDF" (Output WP 5.3)

Download "Case Study on Regional Economic Justification of PSO/RDF for Liepaja Airport" (Output WP 5.3)

Download Annex 1 "Case Study on Regional Economic Justification of PSO/RDF for Liepaja Airport" (Output WP 5.3)

Download Annex 2 "Case Study on Regional Economic Justification of PSO/RDF for Liepaja Airport" (Output WP 5.3)

Transnational actions or plans

  • Policy framework paper: transnationally elaborated and presented in Brussels by ~40 INTERREG regions (BALTIC BIRD, SBGA, CHAMPIONS) proposing recommendations for EU regional policy in peripheral BSR. EU-policy use paper for operationally adapting territorial development strategies (e.g. intern. PSO regulation).

Branding and marketing concepts and strategies for BSR products

  • Implementation of marketing concepts at BALTIC BIRD airports: For example Liepaja transforms transnationally elaborated marketing objectives, procedures, strategies to pilot-implement dedicated marketing concepts to attract airlines after reconstructing airfield; Karlstad implements to establish new destinations.

» Website "The Airport Marketing Toolbox"

  • Destination Marketing Concept for BALTIC BIRD partner airports and regions: transnational identification of strengths and attractions of peripheral BSR leading to the development of concepts about how to promote them adequately; regions and tourism authorities will use concepts as guidelines for required steps to efficient destination marketing.

Download Site Visit Report "Tourism Destination Development Guidelines for the BSR" (Output WP 5.2)

  • Implementation of destination marketing concept: at least 1 implementation of destination marketing instruments. For example Avinor will pilot-implement a concept for their Northern Norway airports, by building common tourism brand for 9 airports located in the countries of Finnmark, Island of Svalbard.

Educational products (e.g. training programmes or methods, curricula, etc.)

  • Evaluation report on marketing strategies: quality check, revision of success and outcome of pilot-implementation of marketing concepts by partners lead to a report; BSR airports will use it as guideline for refining and branding airport marketing, and training staff in airport marketing skills.

Download Final Report "Elaboration of an Airport Marketing Toolbox" (Output WP 5.1)

Others

  • New flight routes at BALTIC BIRD airports due to PAX analysis, airport marketing, and PSO/ RDF application: regional authorities, companies and inhabitants of BSR will become closer together; can more easily visit each other (internal accessibility). In particular peripheral BSR will receive faster external accessibility to/from important economic centers in EU.

» New Route Karlstad (Sweden) - Frankfurt (Germany)

» New Route Kalmar (Sweden) - Berlin (Germany)

  • Pilot implementation “innovative individual PTS": pilot investment “City Air Terminals”; PAX will use it for a quick "self check-in" in the City and with regard to information on seamless transport to airport; PTS will use it to rise PAX numbers; EU can use it to show ecological balance between air transport and PTS.
